Helping Hands Bringing Threads to the Homeless

Have you ever wanted to make a change in the world or help someone who couldn’t support themselves?

From an early age, I began volunteering my time in hopes of making a difference in someone’s life. I’m not sure why I was drawn into the wonderful world of volunteering so early in my life, as my family wasn’t religious and there was no pressure to do so, but at 13, it felt like the right thing for me to do.

To begin my volunteering journey, I became an assistant tutor at a local community learning centre, which then evolved to spending time at a local food bank to help those less fortunate in our community. Then, at the age of 16, I began supporting local women in our abused women’s centre, supporting women and families in conflict resolution and security.

It was during this volunteer placement that something inside of me changed, and I began to notice the impact a community can have on those less fortunate. From there, I created my first charity initiative called Sharing the Holiday Spirit. In this initiative, I collected funds to create donation packages of food and clothing during December to be handed out to the homeless of my community. Being able to help and support those less fortunate during this initiative forever changed my life.

From there, in the year I turned 18, I travelled overseas to Ghana, working with Habitat for Humanity and a local orphanage, supporting rural community members to improve the lives of their next generation. Next, I went to Ethiopia, continuing my volunteering journey, teaching spoken English and working in a local community AIDS orphanage.

On my return home from these overseas volunteer experiences, I began volunteering in and running local community charity chapters, including S.T.A.N.D (Students Taking Action Now Darfur).

By allowing myself to experience these life-changing volunteer opportunities, I have always had a soft spot for supporting those less fortunate in any way I can. With this deeply rooted urge to help local communities, I knew when I first created Pear Collections that I wanted to build a fashion brand that was not only environmentally conscious but also one that would make a difference in others’ lives.

And so, our Helping Hands: Threads for Homeless Initiative was created.

The Initiative

Helping Hands: Thread for Homeless is an initiative created to help local communities and the less fortunate improve their lives and feel better about themselves and their self-worth. This initiative also focuses on assisting in building a better future for the homeless community worldwide, in hopes of reducing homelessness statistics. By collaborating with local and independent community charities, Pear Collections can make a difference, raise awareness and improve the lives of those less fortunate – one sale at a time.

Our Commitment

Wondering what the initial commitment is?

Pear Collections is proud to state that with every purchase from our Pear range, we donate 5% of profits to local community programs to help fund support, education, and prevention of homelessness. At the end of each financial year, Pear Collections makes a bulk donation to an independent community leader to support work with the local homeless.

Yes, this means that for every garment and accessory you purchase, you are directly donating 5% to a local community working hard to support those less fortunate!

Not only does this initiative make my heart sing, but it also ensures that pear-shaped and curvaceous women who value ethical fashion brands can shop ethically while loving their curves and valuing their self-worth.

In our pear-books…it’s an absolute WIN-WIN!
